2023 Assessment
The E. Stanley Jones Chapel, built in 1884, is the oldest enclosed meeting place for the spiritual life of the Asbury Grove Methodist Campground community. Generations of adults and children have entered this historic building with its soaring beams, stained glass windows, wood pews, center aisle, and wide plank floors. Through the years, crowds of all ages have gathered for Sunday School, hymn sings, midweek prayer services, children’s chapels, weddings, Grove community meetings, and more. In short, the chapel is organic to the life of the Grove.
Urgent and obvious signs of failure of the Chapel are the skirt boards (see picture) pushed out by the eroding and failing pilings.

Dedicated craftsmen examined the entire Chapel last winter after the Asbury Camp Meeting Corporation Board of Directors commissioned a Conditions Assessment by structural engineers. They recommend for Phase 1, our immediate need, a new masonry foundation and entrances to properly ensure the safety and preservation of this chapel. Phase 1 foundation and entrances are currently estimated to be $189,600, growing 8% per year if we delay this work. In total, we have four phases over 10 years which are projected to cost over $400,000. In February 2023, the Board of Directors unanimously supported the Grounds Committee's unanimous recommendation to proceed with all the preservation recommendations.

We all have an investment in Asbury Grove’s future. Donate online (www.asburygrove.org) or send a check.
